Andre Gomes’ horror injury put a damper on happenings in Premier League Football this week. Across Europe, it seemed to be a week for the underdogs. Even Liverpool and Manchester City were minutes away from a surprising loss.

In La Liga, it seems nobody wants to be first on the table while in Bundesliga, there is a specific team without a coach.

There’s so much to talk about especially in the Premier League, and we’ll get right into it. Up, up and away.

Premier League Football: Andre Gomes’ Injury and Comebacks.

If you are looking for Andre Gomes’ injury photo, you won’t find it here. I advise that you don’t go looking for it either. It’s horrific.

The Portuguese midfielder broke his right ankle following a collision with Aurier after a challenge from Son during their 1-1 draw.

Son got a red card and was left in tears after he realized how bad Andre Gomes’ injury was. Even Aurier had to offer prayers up to his God following the collision.

Andre Gomes has since had a successful surgery and is expected to make a full recovery. We definitely wish Andre Gomes a speedy recovery from the fracture in his leg.

Elsewhere, Liverpool are mentality monsters. 1-0 down at the 87th minute and 1-2 up by fulltime. Mane’s form is so fire that Klopp will not be on our list of managers most likely to be sacked for a long time.

Manchester City also did the same. The Citizens overturned a 0-1 deficit to win at home — all credit to Southampton for giving them a tough game.

Mane now has six goals in the Premier League and is fired up ahead of City’s visit to Anfield.

Down the table, Arsenal and Manchester United are in the same boat, a boat that is travelling farther and farther away from the Top 4 in the Premier League standings. Arsenal can’t seem to hold a lead, and Manchester United can’t score without penalties.

Arsenal have got high flying Leicester next. If you are an Arsenal fan, remember Vardy has 10 goals already. It just might be about to get worse.

La Liga: The gift that nobody wants.

Barcelona was top of La Liga before this game week. They started the weekend by offering the chasing pack a gift. Barcelona lost away to midtable Levante. In fact, La  Blaugrana scored first against the underdog team.

However, as they say, “It’s not the size of the dog but the size of the fight in him”.

Barca might not be able to win away, but they did send an away message to former player Ander Gomes following his injury.

Granada, Atletico and Real Madrid were the teams that could have received the gift of 1st place offered to them by Barcelona.

Granada lost and dropped out of the top 5 for the first time this season. Atletico drew away at Sevilla while Real Madrid played out a goalless draw at home.

Barcelona Claus offered a very early Christmas present to the pack, and they chucked it right back. Right now, only 1 point separates 1st placed Barcelona from 5th placed Sevilla.

For a league that is supposedly not competitive, this situation is quite interesting.

Ligue 1 and Bundesliga: The Week of Underdogs

It was “dog eat tiger” week in Ligue 1 as PSG fell to a shock defeat against rock-bottom Dijon away. Thomas Tuchel was visibly frustrated and accused his team of not playing together.

PSG were without Neymar but still scored first via Mbappe. With Sterling’s slight dip in form, he looks to be leading the Mbappe vs Sterling argument.

However, Dijon came from behind to win the match. Akin Alabi and other bookmakers must have had a good weekend.

In Bundesliga, Bayern suffered a brutal reverse 5-1 at Frankfurt. Not as brutal as Andre Gomes’ unfortunate leg injury but it was enough to lead to Bayern parting ways with Niko Kovac.

Bayern are 4th in Bundesliga, 4 points away from the top. In Bavaria, 2 losses are enough to help you lose your coaching job. *Stares at Barcelona fans.

That’s all we have on our weekly soccer roundups. Don’t forget to check our FPL column for the best gist and transfer ideas. And don’t forget to say a quick prayer about Andre Gomes’ leg injury. He needs it.

Shalom.
